Here’s the step by step guide to learn how to record phone calls using Google Voice.

Before starting, create your Google Voice account. if you don’t have one, just follow these steps to create your Google Voice account.

1. Creating Google Voice Account

  • Firstly, go to Google Accounts Sign up page by clicking this link.
  • Now fill out the account registration form by providing the required information.
  • Enter your first name and last name.
  • Now enter a unique username.
  • Enter a password and then re-enter to confirm.
  • Now select the date of birth.
  • Select your Gender from the drop-down list.
  • Provide your mobile number.
  • Enter your existing email address for verification purpose.
  • Finally, enter your location and then press “Next Step” button.
  • Follow further instructions to create your new Google Account.

After creating the Google accounts, you can easily login to your Google Voice Account. Now follow these steps to record calls with Google Voice.

2. Record Phone Calls with Google Voice

  • Firstly, go to Google Voice homepage.
  • Now go to the gear icon located at the top right side of your screen. Please see the screenshot for reference.
  • Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  • Next, go to “Calls” tabs.
  • Finally, click the checkbox “Enable Recording” located at the bottom of the page.

Now you are fully ready to record incoming calls. With Google Voice, you can only record incoming calls. Tap “4” from the keypad to start recording. To stop the recording, again press “4”. The recorded audio will be automatically saved to your inbox. To listen to your recorded call, just go to the menu and click “Recorded”

It supports various audio formats including MP3, WAV, AWS, and more. Other notable features include manual and auto call recording options, automatically delete old files, password protection, cloud storage such as Google Drive and DropBox, and other useful features.

3. Use External Recording Devices

This method is a little tricky but not impossible. You can also record a call using an external device. A dedicated recorder like PR200 Bluetooth Cell Phone Call Recording Device, PhotoFast Call Recorder, 3.5mm Plug Phone Call Recorder, and others. You can buy any device from eBay or Amazon.com.  There are so many devices in these online stores. Some of them are expensive but they may be reliable and easy to operate.

4. Use Rev.com to transcribe your recorded calls

Rev.com cannot record your phone calls, however,  you can transcribe a recorded call. To do so, you need to use Rev.com on another smartphone or tablet, turn on the speaker, record and then submit to Rev.com to get its transcription.  The service is free for first ten minutes, however, if you have a long recording, then buy its subscription for $1/min.

Legal Issues for Recording Phone Conversations.

In the United States, laws regarding phone call recording vary from state to state.
